101 Must-Do's for Kiwis

99 bends from Strahan to Queenstown

About 99 bends from Strahan to Queenstown

Tasmania is easy to explore by car: it is compact, the roads uncrowded and scenery varied. Getting from A to B is fun too. On Tasmania's west coast, there is a particular spot on the Lyell Highway out of Queenstown that the locals call '99 bends'. The curvaceous, silky-smooth tarmac over a mountain range is great for drivers to put the car through its paces (driving to the conditions and at the speed limit, of course). This road is also a favourite of drivers in the acclaimed Targa Tasmania tarmac rally.
